The MPA hosted its second official workshop on the 15th of September at the People’s Theatre
The MPA hosted its second official workshop on the 15th of September at the People’s Theatre. The theme for this workshop was The Future of Music Publishing Agreements, led by industry expert and well-known author, academic, lecturer and advocate of the High Court, Nick Matzukis. Nick, is a published author of one of the most referred-to music law books, “Music Law, Contracts and Business – the musicians guide to how the South African Music industry works, how to negotiate the best possible contracts, and how to make money in South Africa and overseas.”
The audience was a mix of music publishers, composers and songwriters, all passionate about business growth. Nick Matzukis broke down the most important aspects of music publishing contracts, from helping the audience distinguish between different deals, to highlighting those not-to-be-ignored clauses. The workshop also hosted a panel discussion with experts from different sectors in the industry; Mpumi Phillips from The Orchard, and Mzwandile Sibanda from Africa Creative Publishing,. The panel was facilitated by the chairman MPASA, Ryan Hill.
The turnout was a success and brought new businesses into the MPA SA fold. We look forward to hosting more educational workshops in the new year and nurturing the minds of future leaders of the industry. The mission is always to provide real value to music publishing enterprises. See you at the next one!
