From Choir Stages to Industry Leadership – How Rhandzo’s gospel roots shaped her music journey.

Rhandzo’s journey into the music industry began with a deep-rooted love for gospel music. Having spent decades working in gospel entertainment, her passion was ignited when she first began singing for Vaal Sound Chorus choir. While there, Neyi Zimu, who was the choir leader at the time, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music.

The Importance of Education in Music Business

J22:28 Productions, named after the Bible verse Job 22:28—”You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; and light will shine on your ways”—embodies Rhandzo Maseko’s mission to empower those who lack the means to empower themselves. Driven by her deep belief in the transformative power of education, Rhandzo is particularly focused on equipping artists in the Vaal with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in the music business.

During her time as the Marketing Manager at the Independent Music Performance Rights Association (IMPRA), Rhandzo recognized just how many artists were struggling with the business side of the industry. This realization became a key motivation for founding J22:28 Productions.

“Most artists in the Vaal don’t know the business side of music,” she shared. “That’s why I’m committed to hosting educational workshops—to bridge that gap and ensure they’re prepared to navigate the industry successfully.”

Influences and Mentorship

When asked about the women who have influenced her career, Rhandzo immediately mentioned Hloni Modise, the founder of the Basadi Music Awards. “Hloni Modise is a huge influence and role model that I look up to the most,” Rhandzo shared, highlighting how Modise’s achievements and leadership continue to inspire her. Interestingly, Rhandzo draws much of her inspiration from outside the entertainment industry, finding strength and motivation in the broader experiences of women who have triumphed in various fields.

Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, Rhandzo’s ambitions are both grand and deeply personal. She dreams of establishing a prestigious arts school in the Vaal that will focus not just on creativity but also on the business aspects of the arts. “I want to put the Vaal on the map and showcase the incredible talent we have here,” she shared, envisioning a future where artists from her community have the same opportunities and knowledge as those from larger cities.

J22:28 Productions is also currently working promote its gospel artist Jabulile Jay, whose single “Miracle Worker” is out now for all to enjoy. We have been told to be expect more music for Jabulile Jay in the near future.
