Kopton Music Member Feature

Nikilitha Mantungwa’s music journey began at age six with a guitar and an early fascination with live performance. Over the years, she evolved from guitarist to rapper before transitioning into music publishing and sync licensing. This shift sparked during her time at a Woodstock record label, where she secured her first placement on Blood & Water Season 3.

Founding Kopton Music in 2023, she discovered fulfilment in the behind‑the‑scenes work of administration and licensing. Today, she advocates strongly for proper split sheets and admin readiness, noting that clean rights management is essential for sync success. Her work has led to placements such as her contributions to the Netflix series Marked, where she collaborated with South African music industry veteran Marc Algranti and Joel Assaizky and curated selections inspired by her Spotify playlist.

Collaboration With Rain

Nikilitha continues to expand Kopton Music’s footprint in the sync world, with her latest win being a brand collaboration between Rain and Artclub & Friends. In this campaign, Rain partnered with the fashion brand to design a new WiFi modem, and the soundtrack to the launch features Kujenga’s music from the Common Ground EP, which Kopton Music successfully licensed for both the online and TV roll‑out.

Her Next Big Step: The Home of Sound Festival

A next milestone ahead for Nikilitha and Kopton Music is the Home of Sound Festival, taking place on 29 March at The Outlore Base in Cape Town. The festival celebrates Kopton Music’s third anniversary and showcases emerging and established talent across jazz, hip-hop, and neo‑soul, including Kujenga, Internet Athi, Dusse Wavy, and KhiweG as headliners.

Described as “more than just a festival; it’s a homecoming of South Africa’s next generation of musicians and the Gen‑Z‑led publishing company backing them,” the event marks how far Kopton Music has come and the community it continues to build. Click the following link to get your ticket.

Nikilitha’s philosophy remains simple: success comes from consistency, discipline, and waking up every day ready to build. With Kopton Music’s momentum and the upcoming festival, her journey is only just beginning.
