MPASA Board Member Updates

Following a successful AGM last year, The Music Publishers Association of South Africa welcomes two new directors, Muvhango Ndou and Thando Makunga, and congratulates Vongani Rikhotso and Natalie Sanderson for their re-election after rotation. However, we are sad to bid farewell – at least for time being – after years of dedicated service, to Craig MacGahey and Vivienne Daniel. For more information on our two new board members, please see the Executives & Staff section of the MPASA website.

Executive Committee Changes

The Music Publishers Association of South Africa congratulates Ryan Hill for his re-election as Chairman of the board, Reuben Makondo for his re-election as Treasure, and Thando Makunga for her election as vice-chair. Together, the chair, treasurer, and vice-chair form the executive committee which is mandated by the board to focus on MPASA’s governance, board cohesion and diversity. Here’s a word from our vice-chairman:

Welcome to our new and returning members and board members! It’s a great honour and privilege to serve on the MPA SA board this year and we welcome to our new and returning members and board members.
Shifts in the South African music industry have opened new avenues for innovation in the music publishing space. Backed by a greater diversity of voices, The MPA SA is ideally placed to develop and ready its members for success in an exciting market. We are only effective when our members engage in the various opportunities we create, and we therefore welcome active participation from you to see continued growth in the business of music in Africa.

We continue to focus on the everyday needs of music publishers, big and small, whilst strengthening our relationship with stakeholders in our environment such as collective management organizations and users, in order to break down historical barriers that limit the success and positive impact of music publishers.

We need music publishers’ voices to be heard by those involved in the development of our laws, especially as the country seeks to update its Copyright Act. The Act plays an enormous role in the growth and development of rights holders who protect, develop and serve our songwriters and producers, in turn influencing the future of South African music on the global stage.

You are the heartbeat of South African music.
Thando Makhunga
