The WomPowa Music Industry Expo Sets the Stage for Empowerment
In celebration and recognition of Women’s Month and promote the growth of women in the South African music industry, the WomPowa Music Industry Expo was formed in a partnership between MPASA and Women in Music South Africa to action the importance of women in the music industry. The event left its attendees inspired, empowered, and eager for more.
Hosted at the Academy of Sound Engineering, the energy was electrifying as attendees eagerly participated in sessions that covered various aspects of the industry.
Session 1: Unleash Your Potential in the Creative Production Section
Led by Katryn Nieuwoudt, attendees immersed themselves in a dynamic music production workshop, learning essential music production and song writing techniques, and gaining insights on the music creative process.
Session 2: Building a Team: Management/ Distribution/PR/ Label
Hosted by brand and marketing expert Lebo Kgothadi, attendees gained insights into the secrets of effective music marketing, branding, PR, label dynamics and team building (management). Lebo shared educational and moving examples of some of the work that she did, helping attendees understand how to make their music resonate and connect with audiences in a meaningful way.
Session 3: Song Registration and Royalty Collection
In this session, co-hosted by Mikateko Nethononda, General Manager of Member Services at SAMRO, and Lerato Matsoso, Stakeholder Relations Manager at CAPASSO, attendees delved into the crucial aspects of song registration and royalty collection. Their expertise illuminated this often-complex facet of the music business.
